Malawi Red Cross Society is implementing a project to contribute towards reaching the goals of the Scaling-Up Nutrition Initiative, United to end Stunting.
Project Title: Scaling Up Nutrition specific and Nutrition Sensitive Interventions for Reducing Stunting in Malawi.
The goal of the program is to contribute to the improvement of the nutritional status of under five children in the four targeted districts of southern region of Malawi

Southern Malawi districts of Chikwawa, Mangochi, Mulanje, and Neno.

The overall objective of the project:
To contribute towards reduction in stunting by an average annual reduction rate of 2% from baseline by focusing on children aged 0 to 23 months, adolescent girls and pregnant and lactating women in 4 districts.
Specific Objectives:
- By December 2017; 80% of mothers and caregivers of children 0-23 months in the 4 districts access high impact nutrition specific interventions.
- By December 2017, 80% of mothers and caregivers of children 0-23 months participate in hygiene promotion activities.
- By December 2017, 30 District Nutrition Coordination committee members capacitated to plan, coordinate, and implement monitor and evaluate multi-sectoral actions towards stunting reduction.
- By December 2017, 80% of frontline workers in the 4 districts are capacitated to promote appropriate household behaviors and social change for maternal nutrition, infant and young child feeding and care practices to increase resilience in the community.
Project outputs:
- High impact nutrition-specific interventions to address immediate causes of stunting implemented in 4 districts.
- Multi-sectoral nutrition sensitive interventions in the areas of WASH, food security, women’s empowerment and social protection to address underlying causes of stunting implemented.
- Strengthened capacity of DNCCs on multi-sectoral program planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation in 4 districts.
- By December 2017 80% of frontline workers in the 4 districts are capacitated to promote appropriate household behaviors and social change for maternal nutrition, infant and young child feeding and care practices to increase resilience in the community.
- Capacity for multi-sectoral data collection, analysis and reporting strengthened.
